A level pass rates stay high at Llandovery for another year

Ten percent of pupils achieved three or more grade As in their A level examinations at Llandovery College and one pupil passed five A levels with 4As and 1B.

The A/B pass rate of 59 percent is in keeping with recent years and the majority of pupils have already been accepted at the first choice of university. The A grade pass rate has remained fairly constant in the past three years at around 25 percent although top grades have risen significantly since the year 2000. Results are above the average for Wales.

High grades have been achieved in sciences and arts subjects and the pass grades by girls are, on average, higher than those for boys.

Boys top the class as Llandovery score highest A* and A on record.

Forty one percent A* and A was the top pass rate at Llandovery College today with the highest honours going to the boys.

Although the were successes all round and the A* to C pass rate was 93 per cent it was the boys who took the top positions with A*s and As this year.

Despite national concerns that the high passes at GCSE were in the so-called “less academic” subjects at Llandovery the passes in core subjects of Mathematics, English and Science are at their highest level.

Warden Peter Hogan said, “After so much attention on girls out performing boys it is refreshing to see so many boys getting excellent grades. As always it is hard work and good teaching that makes the difference.”
