Drama is thriving at Llandovery and is based in the College’s own Performing Arts Centre. As well as performing within lessons, pupils are encouraged to give public performances for family and friends.
There are annual productions including Wizard of Oz, Fiddler on the Roof, and Grease. Theatre companies regularly visit the school to present workshops and plays and there are many theatre excursions for all year groups.
The Wind in The
Willows
Junior Drama club presented ‘The Wind in
the Willows’ at the beginning of the term.
As an ensemble piece, the cast started the main roles and created a
vibrant presentation. Year 7 pupils took
the roles of wicked wild wooders and sweet cool singing wood mice, while Year 8
pupils shared leading roles. The
performers used no props or set, relying on their excellent vocal and physical
skills to bring the play to life.
Year 10 evening
The evening of performance from Year 10 started
with the melodrama ‘The Perils of Pauline’ in which pupils became members of
the ‘Black Hand Gang’ pursuing Pauline.
The second half of the evening five girls
turned the set into a cocktail bar, ‘Shakers’ where the pupils displayed their
acting talents by becoming a range of customers.
