Appointments 2008-2009
Prefects
and other posts of responsibility
Shortlisting process
The
shortlisting process is now underway and all polls are closed. Staff and current
Prefects have been asked to submit their preferences. This data has been
analysed and forms part of the selection process.
The
Deputy Warden and I have met to consider the applicants. Maj. Jennings and Maj.
Drinkall will make nominations to me for RSM and CSM; Messrs. Williams, Davies
and Bayley and Miss Evans will make nominations for Captain of Hockey and
Captain of Rugby.
We
have a very strong field of applicants for all posts and where possible
positions will be distributed so there is the smallest amount of doubling-up of
responsibilities.
All
applicants will be notified by letter on or before Monday 19th May.
Pupils offered a position must write to confirm their acceptance. It is
anticipated that all positions listed below will be decided at the same time.
Formal notification will be given in Chapel on Tuesday 20th May.

Prefect
It is possible that some of the specific
responsibilities will be held by pupils who are also College Prefects
The
process proposed is as follows:
Members
of the Lower Sixth are invited to submit a letter of application plus up to
date cv. The letter should be countersigned by two members of the teaching
staff who are prepared to support the application. Address the letter for the
attention.
If
an applicant wishes to be considered for the post of Head of Deputy Head of
College this should be made clear in their letter.
In
the letter applicants should state if interested in any of the specific post(s)
named above.
After
the deadline for applications there will be a poll of staff and current
Prefects. This is a means of finding out the opinions of staff and Prefects-it
is not an election process.
Depending
upon the number of applicants there may be interviews for short-listed candidates.
If this is the case, a structured interview with questions will be circulated
in advance.
The
disciplinary record of pupils will be taken into account when making the
selection.
Comments
on the process
If
any member of then Lower Sixth or teaching staff have any concerns about the
process or wishes that I adopt a different or amended procedure they should see
me without delay. All reasonable suggestions and comments will be considered.

College Prefects
Prefects assist
with the smooth running of the school in all ways. They have disciplinary
authority over other pupils. College Prefects wear a suit when they are on duty
(typically once each week) but have the delegated authority of the Warden and
are expected to conduct themselves as prefects at all times.
