Sport report: week beginning Mon 28th
April
The College
1st XI cricket team opened their season with a narrow 2 run loss to Rougemont School last Wednesday. In spite of all the damp weather, Llandovery
mastered the conditions and took full advantage of a sticky wicket to bowl the
opposition out for 76 runs. Only the
previous week the Rougemont captain had struck a century in a victory over Christ College. Captain John Thorley and year 9 debutant Joe
Morgan took the lion’s share of the wickets.
Morgan took 3 for 12 off 4 overs.
The wicket keeping of Jaen Botes and all round fielding of the team was
top notch.
However
with the wicket deteriorating and the opposition bowlers playing with unerring
accuracy the total proved difficult to reach.
Captain John Thorley fell early and then the tightest of run outs for
Ceitho Annwyl Williams proved our undoing at the top of the innings. Josh Basey held the innings together, but
with wickets falling at regular intervals we lost the last man just 2 runs
short. It was nailbiting stuff. The team played together in an excellent
spirit and can go no doubt go on to good things this term. Added discipline in the Llandovery batting
will be a must against Christ
College on Wednesday.
