Friday 5th of March saw musicians from the prestigious Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama arrive in force at Llandovery College to share their expertise with musically gifted pupils.  A strings masterclass was first on the agenda and the day ended with a showcase concert featuring young musicians from Llandovery College and the RWCMD.  The wood panelled Great Hall provided a perfect backdrop for the stringed instruments, joined by singers from Llandovery’s Chamber Choir.  This special day marks the beginning of a partnership aimed at developing Llandovery College’s musicians through the chance to perform with those studying at the Royal Welsh College.

The programme included music from Mozart and Medelssohn and was conducted by Peter Esswood.  The event also featured a solo by outstanding clarinet player Carwyn Teifion who is just 14 years of age. Mrs Emma Edwards, Director of Music at Llandovery College and graduate of RWCMD, commented, “I am so excited about the opportunities this partnership represents for our pupils.  They will now be able to extend their musicianship in an environment of excellence.  This is the first event in an on-going programme of musical development for Llandovery College.”
