Pupils at Llandovery College are today celebrating the school’s best -ever A level results.

A record 60 per cent of students achieved A*-B grades with six per cent securing the challenging new A* grade which requires a performance totalling 90 per cent or above at A2.

Warden Mr Ian Hunt said Sixth formers at Llandovery College have excelled themselves: “We are delighted by these results,” he said. “It is an endorsement of the very hard work put in by both pupils and staff at College.”

Among the top achievers are Jac Griffiths who clinched three A*s in English, Art and History; Aaron Au; William Edwards, Vincent Lam and head girl Isabel Pemble – all of whom gained straight As and A*s. Joint head girl Rebecca Mahon was delighted with her two A*s and two Bs as was Paul Bumford who got two As and a B.

Jac plans to study Architecture at Edinburgh; Rebecca is off for Reading to read Law, Paul will read Medicine at Bristol and Will is heading to Manchester to read History.

Students at Llandovery have performed strongly across the board with some exceptional results in English with 100 per cent of candidates getting A* or As and History where almost 90 per cent gained A* or As. There were also excellent results in Mathematics and Science.

This year’s results are up considerably on last year where 46.8 per cent were awarded A* - B grades.
