Music, drama and the arts flourish at Llandovery College. With a dedicated performing arts centre and music suite, your child has all the facilities and encouragement they need to become actively involved. A highly experienced and qualified team of teachers will help your child develop confidence and self-expression through music, drama, dance and acting.
Music plays a vibrant part of everyday life at College, with a multitude of choirs and musical groups, both classical and contemporary. Individuals and groups take part in an exciting programme of performances and tours - many of which take them abroad - throughout the school year. Llandovery College reverberates to the sound of song and a wide variety of instruments, in chapel, in the concourse, in the Performing Arts Centre, even the Library and beyond. Specialist coaching on a wide variety of instruments is available from the prep school onwards, and at least one concert or Musical Performance Platform every term showcases the students' impressive skills. For those with a distinct musical talent, scholarships are available. Our students often reach an enviably high standard and go on to forge careers on the international scene.
Drama and Music are taught holistically in the early years, giving your child a thorough grounding in the performing arts and the chance to shine. The 'buzz' that students gain from performing to an audience cannot be rivalled. Shy children blossom, extroverts shine, and the audience is enraptured. With activities for the youngest to the most senior students, the Performing Arts Centre is always busy and happy - thriving with the activity. It hosts many productions played to packed houses, from Shakespeare to the latest musicals, always staged to a high standard by both the students and visiting professional companies.
Performance and backstage opportunities extend far beyond the curriculum. Clubs, classes and activities are available throughout the year to supplement year group and whole-school productions.
