Thomas Phillips, founder of Llandovery College, established the institution with a donation of £4,666 (around £15million today). He also gave 20 scholarships. The Trustees of the College are delighted to welcome, once again, Thomas Phillips scholars to Llandovery College. Up to three means-tested, academic awards are made annually to those entering year 7.

Prospective Year 7 pupils sit a demanding academic assessment in addition to the normal entrance examination which includes tests in English, Mathematics and Non-Verbal Reasoning.  This is followed by and interview.  Those reaching the highest standards will be eligible for the award.

These awards will be offered in the form of a reduction in fees of up to 100% for both day and boarding pupils, depending on the financial circumstances of the applicants. The Scholarships will be subject to repeat testing of means each year and may be varied upwards and downwards, depending on changes in financial circumstances.
