Bowled Over! Olivia plays cricket for Wales

Congratulations to Year 8 pupil Olivia North on her selection to the Wales U13 Cricket Squad. Olivia started playing cricket with her father when she was very young and is now a member of Llechryd Cricket Club, playing in a mixed team of girls and boys.

Having taken part in three trials at SSE Swalec Cardiff, the home of Glamorgan Cricket Club, Olivia was absolutely thrilled when her parents gave her the news that she had been selected. Training starts immediately and Olivia said: “I am so excited about the upcoming season and cannot wait for it to begin.” Her role model is Anya Shrubsole, leading bowler for England. Closer to home, Olivia follows in the footsteps of Rachel Davies another Llandovery College pupil who plays for Wales U19s and is herself a rising star in the game.

Sam Thurgood, cricket coach at the College said: “it is great to have young women passionate about cricket. There is no doubt that one of the legacies of Englands’ triumph at the ICC Women’s World Cup in 2017 has been to raise the profile of the game and encourage more youngsters to take part. We are very proud of Olivia’s achievement.”
