Llandovery College is proud to witness an historic milestone as former student, Carys Phillips, signs a full-time professional contract with the Welsh Rugby Union. This significant event marks former Wales women’s captain, Carys Phillips, as one of Wales’ first professional women’s rugby players.

Phillips, who was a student at Llandovery College, will be led by Wales Women head coach and former Llandovery College Director of Elite Rugby, Ioan Cunningham, who unveiled Wales’ first female professional rugby players at the Principality Stadium.

Along with other players and the management team, Carys will now be based at the National Centre of Excellence in Cardiff where they continue their dedicated training and development regime. The College wishes Carys and the Wales Women team all the best in the 2022 Women’s Six Nations starting in March 2022.

The Warden of Llandovery College, Dominic Findlay said: “We are all hugely proud of Carys in gaining one of the first Professional contracts for women in Wales. We wish her all the very best as she and her playing colleagues prepare for the upcoming Six Nations. She is an incredible role model for our aspiring young players all of whom have the talent and drive to follow in her footsteps”.

Llandovery College is especially pleased at this news ahead of their Girls Elite Rugby Day taking place on Saturday 19th February 2022. Girls who are passionate about rugby can follow in Carys Phillips’ footsteps and enjoy a day of exceptional rugby training, skills and performance at Llandovery College, Wales’ famous and most respected rugby school.
