The Academy
From the Junior Academy upward, pupils train in acting, dance, vocal and instrumental performance and technical theatre - because the child on the lighting desk is learning as much as the one in the spotlight.
On stage & backstage
Platform Performances, Scholars' Concerts, the inter-house Eisteddfod, weekly Chapel services and the big production - there is a stage, and a moment, for every child who wants one. And gentle, persistent encouragement for the ones who don't know they want one yet.
The person behind it
Ask a pupil what they'll remember of a Llandovery production and a name comes up before any show does: Claire Hammacott. The full-scale productions that fill our theatre year after year - Frozen, Beauty and the Beast, Matilda, Mary Poppins, Les Misérables - are cast, coached and conducted by her to a standard that makes visiting parents check the programme twice.
From individual singing lessons to the choir to the biggest ensemble numbers, she has an eye for the child at the back who doesn't yet believe they can - and a habit of proving them wrong on opening night. Plenty of schools put on a show. Very few have a Claire.
Confidence you can't teach in a classroom is taught nightly on our stage.
Music, Drama and Art scholarships are awarded at Years 7, 9 and 12 for exceptional talent. Auditions are friendly, we promise.
