Ages 3-11

The Gollop Prep School

Kind, decent and honest - the three words we ask of every child, and every adult, every day. Childhood done properly, on forty-five acres of it.

A proper start

Small people. Specialist teaching. Serious fun.

From Nursery at age three, Gollop children are taught by specialists - French and Welsh, music, computing, PE and swimming - in classes small enough that a wobble is spotted the day it happens and a spark the moment it lights.

Literacy and numeracy are the syntax of everything that follows, and we teach them rigorously. But a Gollop education is measured in wider currency: a child who can build a fire, play a harp, ask a good question, lose gracefully and stand up in front of the school and speak.

  • Forest school and the outdoors - wellies by the door, a river valley for a classroom, and mud as a teaching resource.
  • Music from the start - harps, choirs and concerts; every child performs, because every child can.
  • One campus, 3-18 - prep children swim in the College pool, perform in the College theatre, and grow up watched over by the whole family.

Known from the start

Fifteen years to grow a person. We start gently.

Because the Gollop shares a campus and a family with the Senior School and Sixth Form, there is no cliff-edge at eleven - no entrance exam to fail, no fresh start among strangers. Our teachers pass on not just grades but a genuine knowledge of each child: what they love, what they fear, what they're ready for next.

And there is no test to get in. We welcome children as they are, at three or seven or nine, and begin the long, patient work of finding out who they're going to be.

Come for a morning. Bring the wellies.

The best introduction to the Gollop is a small hand showing you round it. Book a visit and we'll arrange exactly that.
