College Life
Sport here is not a trophy cabinet strategy. It is how children learn what a team owes its weakest member, and what a captain owes everyone.
Everyone plays
Rugby, netball, hockey, cricket, football, judo, swimming, shooting - and golf on our own nine-hole course. In a school this size everyone is needed, so everyone gets a game, and every child discovers what their body and nerve can do.
The Elite Rugby Programme
In 2024 we became the first school ever to win the Welsh Schools & Colleges U18 Cup, beating Ysgol Glantaf at the Principality Stadium - and retained it in 2025. The same year, Rugby World ranked Llandovery among the twelve best rugby schools in the world: the only Welsh school on the list.
Our Boys' 1st XV competes in Conference A of the National Schools & Colleges League, with matches broadcast on S4C. Our Girls' 1st XV has reached the final of the WRU Welsh Schools & Colleges Women's National Conference twice in three seasons - in 2023-24 and again in 2025-26 - as one of only seven schools in the WRU Welsh Schools and Colleges competition, and home to our Residential Girls' Rugby Academy, one of only a handful in the country.
The programme is the same for every player, girls and boys alike: four field sessions a week alongside strength & conditioning, video analysis, twice-weekly physio clinics and an Individual Development Plan - in partnership with the Scarlets, Ospreys, Dragons and Cardiff Rugby, and coached by former professionals and internationals.
In a school this size every player is individually known and individually coached - which is why we punch so far above our weight. The game itself was partly born on these fields: fifty-plus internationals and five hundred Welsh caps later, it is still taught here child by child. The heritage is real →
