Llandovery College students are celebrating an outstanding year of A-level and BTEC results, with significant improvements across every headline measure and strong outcomes on both the academic and vocational pathways.
The 2026 results
A*-A up from 20%
A*-C up from 59%
A*-E up from 97%
A grades at EPQ 100% at A-C
These are substantial year-on-year improvements, and they reflect the academic progress being made right across the College. As a proudly non-selective school we take no entrance exam and turn no child away on the basis of a test - so every one of these grades represents distance travelled, not intake managed.
The College also celebrated exceptional success in the Extended Project Qualification, with 70% of students achieving an A grade and 100% achieving grades A-C - a measure of how far pupils have come in independent research, critical thinking and self-directed study.
Subject by subject
Several subjects recorded particularly strong performances. Mathematics, English and Physics each achieved over 80% at A*-C, with Mathematics standing out as a particular strength: 40% of students there took an A* or an A.
On the vocational side, students taking BTEC Sport achieved 55% at the highest Distinction and Distinction* grades, with a 100% pass rate - evidence of the strength of the vocational routes the College runs alongside its A-levels.
Among the highest-achieving students, one pupil secured three A* grades, while a number of others achieved combinations of A and A* grades, securing places on competitive university courses and other pathways beyond school.
What the College says
"We are immensely proud of our students. These outcomes are the result of years of dedication, perseverance and hard work, and we are delighted to see our pupils rewarded for their efforts. Whether they are progressing to university, apprenticeships, employment or other exciting opportunities, they should be extremely proud of what they have accomplished."
"I would also like to extend my sincere thanks to our dedicated staff, who have worked tirelessly to support our students throughout the year. Their commitment, expertise and care have made a significant contribution to these excellent results."
Dr Georgie Bevan · Acting Warden
"We are delighted with this year's results and particularly pleased with the significant improvements seen across all key performance measures. To increase our A*-A outcomes from 20% to 32.8% and our A*-C results from 59% to 72.3% represents exceptional progress and demonstrates that Llandovery College is continuing to go from strength to strength academically."
"These outcomes reflect not only the hard work of our students, but also the personalised support that is available throughout their educational journey. In particular, our Academic Action Plans have provided targeted and supportive interventions for pupils who required additional guidance. We are especially pleased that students supported through this programme improved, on average, by two grades."
"As a non-selective school, we are incredibly proud of the progress that our students make. Today's results are a testament to the ambition of our pupils, the dedication of our staff and the strength of a school community that is committed to helping every young person achieve their potential."
Miss Cressy Passmore · Deputy Warden (Academic)
And the year below
The College's Year 12 students also performed strongly in their AS-level examinations, producing results that mirror the success seen at A-level. The highest proportion of top grades came in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology - an encouraging indication of continued academic success as this group moves into its final year of Sixth Form.
As students celebrate and prepare for the next stage, the whole College community congratulates them and wishes them every happiness in what comes next.
