The beginning of Brecon Week: the presentation of the College Monkey

A great honour and responsibility, handed down through generations of Llandoverians.

As tradition dictates, the beginning of Brecon Week is marked by one of Llandovery College's most cherished customs: the presentation of the College Monkey to the Captain of the 1st XV.

A great honour and responsibility, the Monkey was presented to this year's Captain, Cole, during Monday morning's Warden's Chapel. From that moment onwards, he became its official guardian, entrusted with ensuring that it remains in his possession at all times, day and night, throughout Brecon Week.

Steeped in history and symbolism, the tradition is a much-loved part of College life and serves as a reminder of the rich heritage, camaraderie, and spirit that surround the annual fixture. The responsibility of safeguarding the Monkey is one that has been handed down through generations of Llandoverians and remains an enduring feature of the week.

We are delighted that this wonderful tradition continues and congratulate Cole on receiving this special honour as he leads the 1st XV into one of the most anticipated weeks in the College calendar.

A fantastic tradition, a great privilege, and the perfect way to begin Brecon Week.
