What first attracted you to Llandovery College?
We were recommended to Llandovery College by a friend who already had two children at the College. She spoke of the amazing camaraderie and community feel amongst the pupils. With small class sizes, the children are known to staff and nurtured to meet their potential.
What makes Llandovery College different from other schools?
Llandovery College is a non-selective school. It caters for a broad spectrum of students, from high academic achievers to those who require additional support. The College succeeds in recognising each child's individual strengths and providing an environment in which all pupils can flourish.
One aspect that particularly appealed to our family was the absence of Saturday school, which remains common in many boarding schools. This has allowed our children to continue participating in their club commitments outside school while still enjoying all that College life has to offer. That balance between school and family life has been invaluable.
How has your child benefited from a Llandovery education?
My children have benefited from small class sizes where staff are really able to nurture each pupil and get to know their strengths and weaknesses very well.
Every child has a hot school meal at lunchtime, which helps them to stay focused throughout the afternoon and provides energy for co-curricular activities.
Joining CCF in Year 9 gave my children an excellent insight into the Cadet Force, what it means to work as a team, and the importance of team morale. DofE has allowed my children to volunteer, develop hobbies and skills further, and experience a level of independence during expeditions - all essential skills.
Why would you recommend the College to other families?
100% yes.
Llandovery College is a small school with a big heart. It has a warm, welcoming atmosphere that creates a genuine sense of community, where every pupil is known, valued and encouraged to thrive.
The breadth of the co-curricular programme is another distinguishing feature. Whether a pupil's interests lie in sport, music, drama, technology or other pursuits, there are outstanding opportunities for them to develop their talents and discover new passions.
The provision of occasional boarding has also been a real strength. Our children board one night each week to accommodate rugby training, and this flexibility has worked exceptionally well for our family.
Overall, Llandovery College offers a unique combination of high academic support, outstanding opportunities beyond the classroom, flexibility, and a genuine sense of community. It is a place where every child is encouraged to grow, both as a learner and as an individual.
